Is Caplex available for clinical use?

Not yet! We are currently working with other agencies and researchers, including the US Department of Defense and US Department of Veterans Affairs, to evaluate an emulator-based test-drive strategy for prosthetic feet (see, for example, https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03651830).

How do I get involved in clinical trials? Where can I try out different prosthetic feet with the Humotech system?

At this time, Caplex, including the “test-drive” evaluation tool, is only available for use in research & development laboratories. If you are interested in learning more about participating in a study, we may be able to make a recommendation. Please email us at info@humotech.com.

Do you take patient referrals?

No. Humotech is NOT a medical or clinical facility, and we do not see patients.

I’m a manufacturer, and I want to use Caplex in our R&D, or I want to include my products in the Caplex database.

Let’s talk. We’re new to commercial R&D, but have spent the last few years assisting academic and government R&D efforts. And, we are laying the groundwork for our commercial device catalog, including developing test methods to evaluate mechanical function. Please email us at info@humotech.com.

Do I need to be a robotics expert to use Caplex?

Not at all! One of the main reasons why we were inspired to create Caplex was to empower those who don’t have years of engineering or robotics experience to tackle interesting questions in prosthesis, orthosis, and exoskeleton design.

What is an emulator?

An emulator is a system that allows the user to have the physical sensation of wearing different assistive devices (or device modes) while wearing just one device. Unlike a simulation, the user experiences the real-world physical characteristics of the device being tested. In addition to emulation, Caplex can also be used to perform other functions, such as perturbation or rehabilitation.

Does Caplex work with my own research/clinical/prescribed assistive device?

We’ve built Caplex to be flexible and efficient, including a modular approach to work with a variety of device types. Let us know what you have or what you’d like to do. We will do our best to devise a solution with our off-the-shelf modules, or propose a custom solution to address your questions. Please contact us at sales@humotech.com.

Does Caplex work only with Humotech’s assistive devices?

No! The system is modular and designed with this kind of flexibility in mind. We have several customers who have developed their own wearable assistive devices or other end-effectors.

Is support included with purchase?

Absolutely. Our standard support package includes everything you might need, even on-site installation and training. We are committed to doing everything we can to make sure you get the most out of your Caplex system.

What do I need to use Caplex?

3-phase power and a treadmill. Some folks are even using Caplex systems with stairmills or overground, though these applications are in their early stages. Contact us at sales@humotech.com to discuss more.
